A visit to South Carolina combines the best of yesterday and today. Where a rich history including Revolutionary War battlefields and restored antebellum plantations combine with luxurious resorts, sandy beaches and first-class golf courses. Here, when the kids begin to riot over the prospect of viewing another old building, roller coasters, sand castles and waterslides are nearby. And when your brain begins to dull from too much relaxation, you’re not far from actual historical sites to tour and explore.

TRAVEL TIPS
Don't leave valuable items in your car or other visible/accessible places such as on a beach towel while swimming.
Local highways often are congested during rush hour traffic or inclement weather. Allow extra time to reach your destination and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, always prepared for sudden stops.
When swimming on the beach, use the buddy system and swim only in areas with a lifeguard. Also, look for, read, and obey all beach safety flags (yellow, lifeguard on duty; blue, aquatic danger; red, no swimming allowed).
Use sunscreen with a high SPF, and apply 30 minutes before exposure to the sun, then reapply after swimming, physical activity or prolonged sun exposure.
WEATHER
South Carolina’s climate is mild and humid. Its long coast lies near the Gulf Stream, which keeps coastal areas warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than the interior. The Myrtle Beach area's annual average high temperatures are in the mid 70's. During the summer, the average high temperatures are in the upper 80's and during the winter, the average high temperatures are around 60°. Myrtle Beach also has an average of 215 days of sunshine annually.
GETTING THERE
The Myrtle Beach International Airport serves as the commercial airport for the Grand Strand and also offers service for private companies. The airport is located on the south end of Myrtle Beach, approximately one mile from the Atlantic Ocean; it is accessible from U.S. 17 Business or Bypass.
GETTING AROUND THE AREA
Once you’ve arrived, don’t fret over transportation to your ultimate destination. Several automobile rental agencies, taxi companies, and limousine services are available to take you where you need to go.
